Signs of Termites & How To Get Rid Of Them

Termites are referred to as the “silent destroyers” because they are able to chew through wood, flooring, skirtings, wooden furniture, roof rafters and even wallpaper undetected. This is why termite control and termite exterminations are so important. Termite infestations are very common all over Gauteng and signs of them are very prevalent during the rainy months.
It is common to find mud tubes outside the home. These are tunnels created by termites to protect themselves from drying out as they travel.
If you hear hollow sounds when you tap the wood in your home, if the wood darkens or blisters, or if the paint is uneven or bubbling, it may be due to termite damage. It is also possible to hear the termites.
Termites have also been noted to leave their wings near doors and on window sills after entering a home.
Our treatment is done as follows:
Outside the perimeter of the building, holes are drilled into the foundation of the building – right around the infected structure and any structure within 5 meters. The holes are drilled 1 meter to 1.5 meters apart. Termite Pesticide is pumped into these holes with a high-pressure pump. These holes are closed neatly after the pesticide is applied. This service carries a 5 year warrantee. It is not advisable to do a part treatment – i.e. just treat the area where the termite damage is visible. The reason for this is that they have nested under your foundation and you do not know where they will pop up next. It is best to do a full drilling service of the entire structure which will carry a warrantee. That way the termite infestation will be eradicated. Our warrantee is issued on the structure so if you sell your home the warrantee is transferred to the new owner for the remainder of the 5 year period. This will also give the new owner some piece of mind.
Exterminating termites indoors is expensive. But replacing cupboards, roof structures, wooden skirtings, wooden doors and wooden furniture etc. is much more expensive. Termite activity will ONLY cease to exist on its own after all the food sources in your structure such as skirtings, cupboards, roof rafters, etc. have been eaten.
Here are some pictures of termites and their nests and tunnels. This should help you to identify them.
